Sponsor

The IOP believes that education is the most direct path to breaking the cycle of poverty. Over 1,500 students have benefited from the IOP Sponsorship Program and hundreds of other children and adolescents are waiting to be sponsored. For less than a dollar a day, you can provide a new future for a student waiting to attend school. If you cannot afford to make the commitment to sponsor a student at this time, please consider making a general donation to help support the IOP’s many programs for vulnerable populations.

lf you cannot afford the full fees at this time, you may make monthly, quarterly or semi-annual donations. Partial payment and clear communication can help IOP staff assure that your sponsor student is able to continue with his/her education.

How to Become a Sponsor

  1. Print and fill out the sponsorship form. New sponsors may choose any level of education to sponsor.
  2. Payment should be in check form. Checks should be made out to “Methodist Temple U.M. Church – IOP.” The IOP USA is a Christian outreach project supported by the United Methodist Church Global Missions; your contributions are tax deductable.
  3. Mail the form and your payment to: Methodist Temple U.M. Church – IOP/ 2109 Lincoln Ave/ Evansville IN 47714
  4. After your initial payment, you will receive reports and statements annually. Please return your statement or indicate in the memo line of your check or on a separate piece of paper the amount you are sending for your student and the student’s number.
  5. You may choose to send extra money to your sponsor student as a gift, or to help with additional personal expenses of the student. If you are sending such funds in addition to the standard fee, state what it is for, for example, holiday gift, extra book expenses, or birthday present. Explanations of the funds are important for record keeping and getting the money to the student.
  6. If you are paying only part of the student fees, include a note with your form or statement explaining your plans for sponsoring your student. The IOP can work to find cosponsors for students whose sponsors cannot afford the full payment.

Please contact family, friends, neighbors, Sunday School classes, work colleagues etc. and ask them to sponsor students or make a general donation to IOP. You might consider honoring someone by sponsoring a student or donating to a specific project instead of giving birthday, anniversary, or holiday gifts. Donations are also appropriate for memorial gifts. We would be glad to send a note to your honoree or family if you wish. Include their contact information with your check.

If you have questions please contact Ron Porter, financial secretary or Stephanie Graber, student coordinator, at [email protected].
